DOCS
DOCS (Doctors on Community Service) is an initiative of Gurukool wherein trips to various rural areas with a paucity of healthcare facilities are organised for the undergraduate as well as postgraduate students of MAMC, every 6 to 12 months.
These trips are organised in collaboration with the various organisations working there, giving the students an opportunity to better understand the functioning of the healthcare system in these underserved areas, as well as provide their services and participate in various field camps for the duration of the stay.
These trips, therefore, sensitise students to the practice of medicine that goes beyond what they see in a tertiary care centre – expanding their horizons beyond day-to-day hospital teaching and exposing them to community medicine in its truest sense. The students are accompanied by mentors who facilitate this learning, holding regular discussions with the group members – encouraging them to push their boundaries and reflect on what they’ve learnt, and provide an overall sense of direction and guidance to the group.
